Durban North is an upmarket suburb of KwaZulu Natal’s largest city, Durban. It is connected to Durban’s city centre via the M4 highway (Ruth First highway) making the trip into town for sight-seeing or business quick and convenient.
Durban North is situated between the Umgeni River (to the South) and another upmarket suburb La Lucia (to the North). To the East are the Indian Ocean and a long stretch of beach.
Durban North’s beach is one of its major draw cards. It stretches from the Umgeni River all the way to Glenashley in the North. Durban North’s beach is a great place to unwind. Between the soft white sand, the tropical coastal vegetation typical of the coastline and the warm subtropical climate, it is possible to convince yourself you are on a luxurious island holiday. What makes it even better is that most of the apartments and guesthouses in the Durban North neighbourhood are within walking distance of the beach and graced with views uninterrupted of the ocean.
Durban North is renowned for its golf courses, so if you are looking for things to do in Durban North, you could always try your hand at this sophisticated sport. The suburb is home to the Beachwood Golf Course (slated as one of the finest links courses in the country), the Windsor Park Golf Course (owned and run by the municipality) and the fine Durban Country Club Golf Course which has often hosted the South African Open.
Just North of the suburb is the Beachwood Mangrove Nature Reserve – a great place to check out the mangroves and escape from the bustle of the city.
If you are less of an outdoors person, the impressive Gateway Shopping Mall is a stone’s throw away as are two casinos – Sibaya Casino and the Suncoast Casino.
