Franschhoek Logement - 4
The little town of Franschhoek, meaning French corner, is one of the oldest towns in the Western Cape and the valley, (of the same name) in which it lies, is one of the most beautiful you’ll find anywhere.
The town’s aesthetic is quaint, consisting mainly of preserved buildings in the Cape Dutch architectural style. Staying in Franschhoek for a holiday affords the same quaint experience, with its small guest houses and rose gardens or elegant boutique hotels. Franschhoek and the Franschhoek Valley form part of the Cape Winelands, a world-renowned wine-producing region and popular tourist destination. Perhaps its main draw is that it is only 75 kilometres from Cape Town, making it a convenient day trip or weekend getaway spot.
Franschhoek is a picturesque place, but that is just one of its many attributes. The original settlers in the area were a group of French Huguenots in the late 1680’s and Franschhoek clings tightly to its heritage to this day. This is one of Franchhoek’s many delights.
You can investigate the history of the area by visiting the Huguenot monument or spend some time wondering around the informative Huguenot Memorial Museum. Alternatively you can kick your heels with the locals at the annual Bastille Festival in July. Another option is to take a self-guided heritage walk of the town.
Franschhoek, as any self-respecting foodie will tell you, also happens to be South Africa’s culinary capital. Many of the little town’s restaurants are run by award-winning chefs and each offers its own culinary style. Thus the town boasts a range of food genres from fine-dining delights to happy bistro meals. The cherry on top is that your meal will likely be served with wines of the region, meaning your award-winning food is accompanied by award-winning wine.
For the more adventurous, the Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve has some beautiful hikes and horse-riding and cycling tours of the vineyards can be easily arranged. Cycling in all its forms is popular in and around Franschhoek, from bumbling around the pretty town to off-road riding on the farms and mountains.
Plan a trip to Franschhoek for a fun, relaxing stay in the loveliest of small towns.

Franschhoek
I personally hold Franschhoek close to my heart, as it is where I went to school for 7 years.
Of course it is totally different now to back in the day when it was just a small dorpie.
