George is situated in the Cape Wildflower Kingdom, at the foot of the Outeniqua Mountains. Travel a couple of kilometres east and you find yourself at the beach. What’s not to love?
There are various beaches near George, with Victoria Bay being one of the closest. Not only is this beach incredibly pretty, it is also a great surf spot, attracting amateurs and professionals alike. Buffels Bay is another popular beach, and is family and pet friendly.
Being situated at the foot of a mountain, it goes without saying that there are some gorgeous hiking trails nearby and its central location makes it easy to visit many of the Garden Route’s iconic national parks. Visitors to George will also find themselves within easy distance of various adventure activities such as abseiling and scuba-diving.
For a little bit of history, check out the Outeniqua Transport Museum. This site has a tremendous selection of trains and vintage cars. From the museum you can take a ride on the popular Outeniqua Choo Tjoe.
The Garden Route is renowned for its culinary scene and George is no exception. Not only are there great restaurants in and around George, but many of the Garden Route’s culinary gems are easily accessible from there too.

This town has world class looks and it is peaceful it my favourite holiday destination. The Ontaniqua mountain on the background makes it look like you are not in ZA especially if you are from Gauteng and on a good day the weather is very beautiful
