Humewood is a suburb in the friendly city of Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. It is situated within the city with the fourth best coastal climate in the world and also benefits from the most daylight hours of any other coastal city on earth. Furthermore, Port Elizabeth is often dubbed the ‘Friendly City’ and the combination of friendly locals and good weather make it a pleasant place to visit. Humewood’s location to the south of the central business district is ideal as it is close to many attractions without being in the centre of the city’s bustle.
Instead of the bustle, it offers visitors a comfortable, tranquil residential suburb with a variety of accommodation types. You can choose to stay in a bed and breakfast or an upmarket guest house for example, with popular attractions nearby.
On the edge of Humewood is Bayworld, an exciting and educational snake park and aquarium, which is also one of Port Elizabeth’s top attractions. In the centre, there is the interesting Donkin Trail, an area of the centre which has been mapped out to showcase Port Elizabeth’s heritage.
Humewood is best known for the nationally and indeed world-renowned Humewood Golf Course. The golf course is an 18-hole links course, said to be the only true links course in Africa. It is continually rated one of the top golf courses in South Africa.
Some of the things along the route are monuments, memorials and museums, including the Castle Hill Museum. Other attractions near Humewood include the gardens of St George’s Park as well as whale watching.
