Kenton-on-Sea Accommodatie
Kenton-on-Sea is a perfect little beach town located in the Eastern Cape. As the name suggests, the small settlement, whose permanent population isn’t much more than 5000, is right on the coast and indeed the sea is a focal point. However, there are also two rivers, on either side of the town, which provide hours of entertainment in their own right.
Kenton, as the town is often known, lies between 2 industrial centres: East London is roughly 180 kilometres away and Port Elizabeth is about 130 kilometres away, making it an easily accessible holiday destination. As a result its population swells during the peak holiday seasons, especially in the December (summer) school holidays!
The town is sandwiched between the Kariega River and the Bushman’s River, both of which provide opportunities for swimming, canoeing and fishing. The beaches at Kenton are famous for their unspoilt nature and the caves for exploring and rock pools for snorkelling in only add to its appeal. Furthermore, Kenton-on-Sea is located on the Eastern Cape’s Sunshine Coast, so-named for the moderate, sunny climate experienced by the area. Perhaps the cherry on top is that Kenton’s position on the Indian Ocean coast means that not only is the weather pleasant but the sea is almost always warm too!
For active travellers, Kenton’s beaches make for great hikes, as do the rolling green hills amongst which the town is set. One can also practise 3 kinds of fishing there namely river, reef and deep sea fishing.
To experience the area from a totally different angle you can head inland to one of the regions malaria-free Big 5 game reserves such as Kwandwe.
