Kyalami Accommodatie
Kyalami is a suburb located in Midrand, northern Johannesburg. The Midrand group of suburbs lies between Sandton and Centurion, on the trajectory to Pretoria. Kyalami is located in the western part of Midrand.
This suburb started, as many did, as rural farmland outside of Johannesburg and these days it is still a particularly spacious suburb, known for its large properties and small-holdings. Perhaps the most famous thing about Kyalami is the Kyalami Race Track, a Grande Prix racing circuit. It is used for both Formula 1 and kart racing and has hosted a number of international-level competitions for cars, karts and even motorbikes.
The track was initially built in the 1960’s as a majestic, sweeping track where especially high speeds could be achieved. However the track was rebuilt in the 1990’s and many of the iconic aspects of the circuit were destroyed. Despite this, Kyalami remains a popular track and on the weekends many Joburg locals head out to the track to indulge their love of racing (either as drivers or spectators).
When the track was built, the area was still relatively undeveloped, and over the years residential and commercial areas were developed around it. It these areas which make up modern day Kyalami, which has all the business opportunities, shopping malls and restaurants of any urban suburb.
Besides the race track, Kyalami’s smallholdings are another talking point for the area. There are numerous smallholdings, many of which are home to stud farms and stables. One is even home to the South African Lipizzaners – a highly pedigreed horse breed which is renowned for impressive dressage skills, pulling off stunts such as jumps, side-ways trotting and prancing on the spot.
