Magoebaskloof Logement
Magoebaskloof means Magoebas Valley, but is really a series of valleys named after a tribal leader who was beheaded in the area during a conflict with the boers. Despite its macabre naming, Magoebaskloof is incredibly beautiful and Magoebaskloof accommodation is great for outdoor lovers!
The region is at the north eastern tip of the Drakensberg mountain range in Limpopo province. It is 60 kilometres from Polokwane and can be reached from Johannesburg within 4 hours. Given its proximity to these places, the Magoebaskloof landscape can come as quite a shock. The surrounding areas consist of yellow bushveld while within the valleys you will find lush tracts of indigenous afro- montane forest. Some of this forest is the Woodbush State Forest, the largest indigenous forest in Limpopo.
In addition to the forests, you can also get a glimpse of the endangered Haenertsberg grassland. This species has been rated by the South African National Botanical Institute as one of the most important botanical species in Limpopo. It is home to many small mammals, rodents and insects and also has a great medicinal value. Unfortunately it is also one of the most threatened botanical species.
The green Magoebaskloof with its soaring peaks offers all the adventures you can imagine and more. Activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking and birding. There are numerous interesting spots to check out too like the Dap Naude Dam, the impressive Debengeni Falls (both of which have pretty picnic places) and the crying rock, which sounds like a gong if you hit it. The area is also known for its 'open gardens' (to visitors), home to spectacular species which grow best in a cool environment such as Japanese maples and azaleas.
The cool temperatures and often misty conditions support the indigenous forests as well as agricultural crops such as kiwi fruits, avocados and raspberries.
If you fancy a lush mountainous escape, make sure you book accommodation in Magoebaskloof for your next getaway.

Magoebaskloof
Lovely friendly people in a beautiful part of our country. Good food was had at all the establishments we frequented.
Debegeni Falls was a little disappointing with all the noise and picnic people littered throughout. Tranquility would have been more apt to absorb the beauty of this spot, rather than music and boozed up picnicers.
