Midrand Accommodatie - 2
Midrand is a region of South Africa’s Gauteng province, situated midway between Pretoria and Johannesburg. It was declared an independent town in 1981, but was later incorporated into the City of Johannesburg Municipality. It is becoming an increasingly significant economic hub within Gauteng and as such, accommodation in Midrand attracts a lot of business travellers.
Today, Midrand denotes the group of suburbs that surround the N1 (Ben Schoeman) high way. These include Kyalami, Carlswold, Crowthorne, Halfway House and Halfway gardens among others.
Midrand is an industrial hub within Gauteng and is known primarily for its motor and textile industries. Owing to these profitable industries, as well as the proximity to Joburg and the myriad of transport links, more and more businesses are finding a home in Midrand. In fact, the Midrand region is expanding so much so that both its border with Johannesburg and its border with Pretoria are becoming blurred.
While the word ‘industry’ conjures up certain imagery in one’s mind, Midrand does not consist solely of factories and office parks. There are in fact large tracts of small-holdings, which are dotted with guest lodges, stables and horse stud farms. The lipizzaners (highly specialised dressage horses) training academy and stud farm are located in Kyalami.
Some other notable sites in Midrand are the Kyalami race track, home of South African race car driving and the Nizamiye Mosque, currently holding the title of largest mosque in South Africa. It was funded by solely by a Turkish construction tycoon who spent about R210 million on it.

Glen Austin AH
I lived in Glen Austin A.H. on a small-holding with horses for a happy 13 years until 1999 when we moved to Cape Town. I attended a course in November 2012 in nearby Randjespark and being familiar with the area, my first choice was to stay in Glen Austin. One can have the best of both worlds - I like the rural feeling and spaciousness whilst restaurants and shops are within easy access.

Kyalami
We are horsey and had an event at KEP. Loved Kyalami, lots of horsey shopping opportunities as well as two visits to see the awesome Lippizana stallions.
