Mouille Point Verblyf
Mouille Point, effectively sandwiched between the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, Green Point and the Atlantic Ocean, is an affluent Cape Town suburb, defined by tall, upmarket apartment blocks with sweeping views over Table Bay and Robben Island. As with other suburbs along the Atlantic Seaboard, accommodation in Mouille Point is exclusive and extremely convenient.
Its name, French for ‘breakwater’, came about when the governor at the time decided to build a breakwater at that point to protect the ships that were anchored there. The ‘mouille’ was never finished but the name has stuck to this day. One part of maritime history which does exist is the Mouille Point light house (also known as the Green Point Light house). This red and white striped relic is a prominent landmark in the area and no doubt serves as a distance marker for many Capetonians who jog along the promenade.
Speaking of the promenade, it is a great place for a stroll, allowing one to breathe in the smell of the ocean without having to keep your eye out for traffic. The promenade is also lined with expansive lawns, children’s playgrounds and an outdoor gym. The combination of young children, parents, retiree power walkers and young buff Capetonians working out on the exercise machines make it a prime location for amusing people watching!
Mouille Point is backed by the Green Point Common, which is home to numerous sports clubs, including a golf club. A world of restaurants and other activities await you ‘round the corner in Green Point and Cape Town’s CBD.
