Newton Park Unterkünfte
Newton Park is a residential suburb, ideally situated for easy access to beaches in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape province. It is also close to many outdoor attractions and historical points of interest.
The Guinea Fowl Trail is a 7 kilometre long hiking trail that meanders on the edge of the Baakens River flood-plain. The 3rd Avenue Dip is a dip on 3rd Avenue that occurs where Newton Park crosses the Baakens Valley, it is also the starting point for the trail. Third Avenue often closes for periods of time due to its predisposition towards flooding, thanks to its low-level location.
Built in 1957, 3rd Avenue used to be the major access point between Walmer and Newton Park (both considered independent towns back then). The William Moffett Express Way has since taken over that role so 3rd Avenue is favoured more as a short cut to Mangold Park, Lorraine and Walmer.
Newton Park also forms part of the historically rich Donkin Heritage Trail. It is a stone’s throw away from the St Croix Motor Museum for those who are car enthusiasts, and those who have a more general love and interest in old, vintage things.
The suburb is a mere 2 kilometres away from Roseate Tern Trail, a hiking trail that leads to various sites, including the historic Cape Recife Lighthouse. Cape Recife is the 3rd oldest lighthouse on the South African coast, built in 1851.
For golf enthusiasts staying in Newton Park, the 100 year old Port Elizabeth Golf Club is also nearby. The club offers two 9-hole greens (with a total par of 72), 25 bunkers and bent grass greens for a challenging game of golf.
