Noordhoek is a rural and rustic area situated below the Southern Slopes of Chapman’s Peak Drive, approximately 35 minutes’ drive from the Cape Town city centre. It is famed for its long white sandy beach, prime position and gorgeous views.
Noordhoek is reached by driving some of the most spectacular roads in the Western Cape – via Chapman’s Peak Drive or over Ou Kaapse Weg (with the Silvemine section of Table Mountain National Park at its centre).
One of Noordhoek’s key attractions is its award winning wine estate, the Noordhoek vineyards. It produces white varietal grapes for the Cape Point Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc. Gourmet dining is also a key aspect to Noordhoek life, and there are some phenomenal restaurants hidden in this small village.
Noordhoek beach is over 8 km long, making it ideal for long walks. For the fit, a walk along the beach out to the Kakapo shipwreck, a wreck from 1900, is a must. The beaches length also makes it ideal for horse riding expeditions, which are popular at sunset. Noordhoek beach is also popular for whale watching (in season) and surfing.
The National park-protected wetlands, behind the beach, are buzzing with animal life and a visit there will allow you to spy Verreaux eagles and flamingos. There are also numerous trails through the wetlands, which make for scenic walks and hikes.
With plenty to do and see, magnificent surroundings, gourmet dining, fabulous hotels and BnB’s and a tranquil atmosphere, Noordhoek might just be the perfect destination.
