Paulshof Unterkünfte
Paulshof is a village in the East Rand of the Gauteng province. It lies north of Johannesburg in South Africa. It is just up the hill from Sunninghill.
Described as 'the garden village of the north', Paulshof is home to many a wild animals which are unique for the city. It has been said that it is not uncommon for a dog to have a run in with the occasional porcupine when on its daily walk. Such is the nature of the village.
Paulshof is renowned for its strong community, a manifestation of which is the tradition of Halloween in the area. The children in the community celebrate Halloween on the streets, going from door to door trick-or-treating, a feat made possible by the community despite the threat of traffic and crime which hinders such activities in other parts of Johannesburg.
Sandwiched between the Braamfontein Spruit, the longest stream in Johannesburg, and the Rietfontein Ridge, the residents of Paulshof are acutely environmentally conscious and have taken it upon themselves to recycle and take care of their area.
The Rietfontein Nature Reserve in Paulshof is home to the Free Me Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre. It is also home to some buck which roam in the hills. The main attraction of the reserve though, is without a doubt the myriad bird species. Some that have been spotted are the little swift, the sacred ibis, southern masked weaver, rock pigeons, black-collared barbets, mouse birds, Cape glossy starlings, Cape robin chats and fiscal fly-catchers.
