Pringle Bay Unterkünfte
Pringle Bay is a small holiday town in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. It is roughly an hour’s drive from Cape Town along one of the most breathtakingly beautiful drives in South Africa. The R44 winds its way from Gordon’s Bay to Pringle Bay and onwards to Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond, wedged between False Bay and the mountainside.
Pringle Bay lies at the foot of the Hangklip Mountains on the edge of False Bay. Standing on the beach there, one can see Cape Point on the opposite side of the bay. This same beach is quite often empty, thanks to the wind which often makes it quite unpleasant for lazing around on, but great for an early morning or late afternoon stroll, especially during the whale season (between June and September), when Southern right whales enter False Bay to mate and give birth to their calves.
Pringle Bay is characterised by holiday homes, only occupied during school breaks and national holidays. This means that if you visit during the off-peak season you will be greeted by a quiet, peaceful town nestled between the mountain and the sea, and if you visit during the high season, you’ll find a vibrant little place bursting with children and people there to ‘let go’.
Amenities in the little village are basic, with a couple of general stores selling basic supplies, and a handful of restaurants, the most well-loved being the pizza spot and the fish ‘n chips joint. Down the road in Betty’s Bay, just less than 20 kilometres away, you’ll find a whole lot more to entice you. For starters the Harold Porter Botanical Garden is home to some endemic plant species, easy to spot in the beautiful gardens, and there is an African penguin colony at Stony Point.
In many respects, Pringle Bay offers the best of both worlds – it is reasonably quiet, with a lovely setting, but there are more amenities and activities easily accessible just down the road if you find you need a short break from all the relaxing.
