Scottsville Logement
Scottsville is an affluent suburb in the small KwaZulu Natal city of Pietermaritzburg. It is located to the south of the central business district, which is easily accessible via a number of motorways. The suburb lies just to the west of the N3 highway, which connects Durban and Johannesburg, making Durban an especially short drive from Scottsville (and vice versa). The suburb is home to a number of special interest activities and there are even more nearby.
One of Scottsville’s most defining characteristics is its aesthetics. It has rather broad streets with wide grassy verges and plenty of trees. The houses are large and well-maintained and their gardens lovingly cared for and often brimming with flowers. Furthermore, given the suburb’s elevation, from some points you can see far into the distance across the KwaZulu Natal farmlands.
Scottsville is not only home to pretty houses, but also one of Pietermaritzburg’s most famous landmarks, the Scottsville Racecourse. The racecourse is a 2300 metre oval-shaped track with a banked turn. There is also a 1200 metre straight track along with a number of bars and restaurants to choose from. An attraction attached to the Scottsville racecourse is the Golden Horse Casino, at the back of the Scottsville grandstand. The casino boasts slots and tables.
The Pietermaritzburg campus of the University of KwaZulu Natal is situated in Scottsville while to the east of Scottsville is the Maritzburg Golf Club. It boasts a beautiful 18-hole parklands course as well as the usual facilities like a pub and restaurant, driving range and pro shop.
A few kilometres from Scottsville you will find the Pietermaritzburg CBD with its historic buildings, museums and monuments. In short, if you are visiting Pietermaritzburg, Scottsville is an excellent place to base yourself because it is convenient and pretty.
