Tofo is one of the more commercialised resorts in southern Mozambique, situated ten kilometres east of Inhambane.
One of the biggest attractions in Tofo is the beach. The long stretches of sand allow for afternoon meanders, while the sea is warm and swimmable for bathers. Local surfers frequent Tofo Beach due to the favourable tides and potential encounters with dolphins.
Holidaymakers looking to venture out into the ocean for deep sea fishing can hire out boats at the heart of the village. If you’re a seasoned scuba diver, or simply looking to try something new, Jeff’s Pro Diving Centre offers daily dives and ocean safaris to both beginners and those more experienced. Expert instructors will take you to the uncharted Manta Reef which is home to a myriad of marine life, including countless schools of fish, turtles, dolphins and humpback whales.
Book a guided tour if you want to learn about the origin and rich cultural heritage of the region. The trip starts from the central market in Tofo to the Inhambane central market, ending off with a boat ride around the harbour.
Canoeing up the Mutambu River on a dhow should be on the itinerary of any water sports enthusiast. Not only a good form of exercise, but the trip takes you to unexplored parts of Tofo, including a visit to a nearby community. The locals will teach you about their customs, traditions and way of life.
