Trou aux Biches Unterkünfte
Trou-aux-Biches is one of the most-talked about beaches on the tropical island of Mauritius, even having earned a World Travel Award for the ‘world’s leading beach destination’. Part of its charm though is that it is slightly off the main tourist trail (at least as ‘off the tourist trail’ as it’s possible to get in Mauritius).
Trou-aux-Biches is situated in the north of the island, slightly south of Mont Choisy and just a few kilometres from Mauritius’ main tourist hub, Grand Baie (or Grand Bay). The beach, with its tropical greenery, clear azure ocean and snow-white sand will certainly not disappoint your notions of an island getaway, and will keep you more than occupied too. It stretches as far as Mont Choisy, and thanks to it being less popular than Grand Baie or Mont Choisy itself, the chances are good (during the week at least) that you will have it to yourself. It is also a little cheaper than the more established resort towns.
The upshot of Trou-aux-Biches relative smallness is that it lacks many of the amenities of the more developed nooks on the island. For example, if you are interested in activities such as diving, horse-riding or even eating in a range of restaurants, chances are that you will need to walk or drive up to Mont Choisy in order to take part in them. However, your efforts are guaranteed to pay off.
The crystal clear water of Mauritius is ideal for snorkelling and diving and getting below the surface of the waves will introduce you to a whole other world, while horse-riding around the island will provide a different perspective on the world you know.
Water sports like kayaking and wind-surfing are also popular and for those lethargic days, lazing around the beach is also a perfectly legitimate way to spend a day in Trou-aux-Biches.
