Vincent Verblyf
Vincent is a conveniently located residential suburb in the friendly little city of East London. East London lies on the Indian Ocean coast, in the largely rural province of the Eastern Cape. The province is home to a large rural, Xhosa-speaking population but within the city there is a mixture of English and Xhosa spoken, with English being the lingua franca. Vincent is located north of the East London central business district but its location is, in many respects more convenient than East London Central.
Vincent is a fairly quiet suburb suitable for visitors who try to avoid the high-energy buzz of city centres. You’ll find wide streets and generally large, well-maintained houses. Vincent’s neighbouring suburbs are Selborne, home to Selborne College, one of the oldest boys’ schools in South Africa, Berea and Vincent Heights. The N2 freeway passes just to the north of the suburb while the North East Expressway is to the east. These two roads ensure that Vincent is well-connected.
The suburb is home to numerous sports facilities as well as the Vincent Park Shopping Centre, a shopping mall encompassing all the amenities (and more) a traveller could possibly need, from electronics shops and clothing outlets to jewellery and grocery stores.
Within a 5 to 10 minute drive of Vincent is the East London Golf Club, located on the coast and surrounded by coastal vegetation. Just beyond it is Nahoon Beach, a picturesque beach which is great for long walks, lazing around on and is also popular with the local surfing population, who surf a spot known as Nahoon Reef, just off shore.
For travelling academics, the Walter Sisulu University has a campus just 2 minutes away from the heart of Vincent.
