Waterfront Logement
The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is one of Cape Town’s most renowned tourist spots. Essentially a shopping mall complex situated right next to the Cape Town harbour, the V&A has a number of swanky restaurants, most with views of the harbour and great people-watching opportunities.
There is a cinema complex which plays host to some interesting film festivals throughout the year and there are tourism kiosks galore, advertising all manner of tours from bicycle township tours to Cape Malay cooking tours (which include a flit round the Bokaap).
The V&A also acts as a landing pad for sunset cruises around the harbour, helicopter dashes around the peninsula and the Robin Island Ferry dock is also set within the complex. Other fascinations in the immediate vicinity include the Two Oceans Aquarium and the Scratch Patch – both awesome spots if you’re holidaying with kids in tow.
Staying at the Waterfront tends to be a class affair with dominant options being beautifully furnished self-catered apartments with views of the harbour or 4/5 star hotels offering in-house restaurants and spas.
The benefits of being based at the V&A are primarily the proximity to endless activities, because not only is the mall complex itself a one-stop shop but it is a mere skip, hop and a jump to Cape Town’s CBD with its nightlife and shopping. It is also very close to Sea Point, where you could opt for a stroll along the promenade or hook yourself up with a diving course or kayak trip.
The major draw card for staying at the V&A Waterfront, put simply, is this: location, location, location.
