Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Road Classic & MTB 2017
The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Road Classic, hosted by Sun City, is in its' 20th year and is a premier seeding event for the Cape Town Cycle Tour.
The road race moves away from its traditional Saturday slot and will take place on Sunday, 20 August offering distances of 103km and 70km. The MTB Classic now fills the Saturday slot (19 August) over the weekend cycling festival.
MTB Race: 19 August
The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa MTB Classic consists of a 25km circuit-based route which riders complete twice in the feature 50km race. The course is incredibly scenic and participants traverse through a palm plantation, the renowned Gary Player and Lost City golf courses, and the neighbouring Letsatsing Game Reserve.
While the route is a beautiful one, participants mustn't be fooled; the route ends with a good technical section on the Sun City motocross track before riders hit the tar for the finish at the Sun City parking lot.
The half-distance or single-circuit race is also suitable for children older than 12 who want to enjoy a family ride with their parents. All participants in both the road and MTB events will receive free entrance into the Valley of Waves on both Saturday and Sunday and there will be plenty of entertainment, hosted by Sun International.
Road Race: 20 August
The Bestmed Cycle4Cansa Road Classic has become well known for its' emphasis on road safety, medical, good value for money and for being one of the flattest and most scenic routes through the North West Province.
The event first drew 1800 riders in 1998, with a record number of 12 000 cyclists participating in the past three years.
Kiddies Race: 20 August
The kiddies race will take place on Sunday 21 August, starting @ 09:00. Entries can be done during registration. Age groups are 5 & Under; and 10 & Unde
All participants that complete the races will receive a medal. The weekend ends with a prizegiving and a huge lucky draw with plenty of entertainment. Bring along the family and come and enjoy an exciting day at the spectacular Sun City resort.
