Cape 2 Rio Yacht Race 2017
The ever popular Cape 2 Rio yacht race, hosted by the Royal Cape Yacht Club will set off from Cape Town on January 1st, 2017!
Setting off from Table Bay takes participants will go from Cape Town South Africa to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a great tactical race for roughly 20 days.
The number of competitors fluctuates yearly, but they are always of the best calibre, coming from an international pool of crews with yachts representing the United States, the United Kingdom and South Africa.
Cape Town is abuzz with acitviy for the kick off of the Cape 2 Rio yacht race, and the bay is swamped with eager spectators. Boats set off from the the breakwater at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront and follows the coast past Granger Bay and Moullie Point before setting off into the international seas.
To get the best view of the starting point, head on over to the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, where the yachts whizz by close to the shoreline. The view from Signal Hill also provides a great panoramic view.
Visitors to Cape Town for the race can book accommodation on the Atlantic Seaboard or at the V&A Waterfront to be close to the action.
