The Darling Music Experience 2016
The Darling Music Festival is an annually-held West Coast music event. With the mantra being “music freshly squeezed”, the festival occurs over a 2-week period at various locations around Darling - from the historic Presbyterian Church, village barns, and local farms.
Festival-goers can expect a feast for the senses, with a menagerie of great music, gourmet food and locally- produced wines.
Music lovers will enjoy the endless variety of performances across genres - from small ensembles, opera, crossover and Jazz; and intimate concerts by international and South African musicians.
Currently in it's 10th year running, The Darling Music Experience is the masterful brainchild of conductor David Tidboald, composer Hendrik Hofmeyr and music enthusiast Alfred Legner. It was launched with the aim of spreading the love of music through organising intimate concerts in a rural setting.
The music on offer at the Darling Music Experience varies between classical and contemporary chamber music, popular choir works and jazz, bringing together community ensembles and soloists with well known national and international musicians. Each year a local composer is handpicked to write a piece, especially for the festival.
Not merely about the music, foodies and vino enthusiasts will enjoy a wide range fine food and wine on offer throughout the festival. For the children, the Darling Music Experience Rally encourages them "to use their ears as eyes", and to develop a further appreciation for all forms of music.The Darling Music Experience freshens the image of classical music and makes it more accessible to all sectors of the West Coast, Cape Town and beyond!
