Durban Bierfest 2018
South Africa's biggest beer festival, Bierfest, promises a 2018 event which is bound to top previous years! New additions include a massive 4000-seater Bavarian Brauhaus adorned with authentic adornments straight off the streets of Germany, Bierfest Durban will be back from 31 August - 1 September 2018 at the Sibaya Casino and Entertainment World.
The Bierfest, which has grown exponentially since it was brought to South African shores, has, not surprisingly, has litres upon litres of Bavarian beer to test out. The event is sponsored by South African Breweries and is said to be the 'next best thing' to attending the original Munich Oktoberfest.
While beer is certainly a fixed attraction for beer guzzlers, it is by no means the be all and end all of the much- anticipated event festival. In fact, if you’re feeling generous, one could go so far as to call it a celebration of the Bavarian way of life. Immerse yourself in the culture for five hours with an array of festivity. Drink from cold jugs of specially-made biers and ease into the spirit of things with traditional oompah music. For the hungry, the Bavarian's certainly know how to cook up a feast with their cuisine - tuck into an eisbein and a vast array of local dishes.
If you're looking for more than just drink and hearty grub, there are several Oktoberfest-inspired games you can enjoy in between your next jug of beers - think cow milking and numerous audience participation activities.
Weaving their way between benches and beer-fuelled bodies will be a bevy of waitresses kitted out in Bavarian barmaid outfits, complete with puffy sleeves and the works. When it comes time to rehydrate and get some food, the same barmaids-cum-waitresses will bring you German dishes from a menu featuring Deutsch Fleischsalat (meat salad), Bratwurst and Bockwurst (sausages) and chips, and rotkohl (red cabbage) among other foreign delights.
