Fine Brandy Fusion Cape Town 2014
South Africa is renowned as one of the world's finest brandy producers, and yet not many South Africans known that. Which is just one of the reasons why you should head down to the Cape Town leg of the Fine Brandy Fusion event.
The tradition of distilling brandy has been around in South Africa since the 1600's when a Dutch ship docked at the Cape and off loaded the golden goodness. The process of brandy distillation is a precise one, which is strictly governed by South African law. The law in South Africa also dictates that there be 3 classes of brandy - potstill, vintage, which is potstill brandy blended with matured wine spirit, and blended brandy, which is potstill blended with unmatured wine spirit. While the alcohol content remains the same for each class, the flavour changes.
South Africa’s brandy industry boasts these 3 varieties, and of the 100’s of producers, the South African Brandy Foundation represents over 95% of these producers, many of which will be represented at Fine Brandy Fusion 2014. Big names include Bisquit, KWV, Klipdrift and Van Ryn’s.
At the Fine Brandy Fusion Cape Town event you can expect to taste these brandies and learn more about the distillery process at the popular master classes. These master classes are included in the ticket price but must be booked in advance.
Other things to expect at the event are live entertainment from ProVerb – the MC for the event and Mi Casa, the popular South African band. Master mixologist Kurt Schlechter will also be doing a molecular mixology demonstration, and you’ll also get the chance to watch a barrel-making demonstration. After all the brandy education, you can head to the cocktail bar and sample South African brandy delights in your own way.
