Gariep Kunstefees 2017
The Gariep Kunstefees is an annual local music event held in Gariep, a quaint Northern Cape town found near to the capital city, Kimberley. Now in its 18th year running, the event is a much-loved institution by locals and tourists alike.
This year, the festival is being held from 31 August - 3 September 2017 at the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Gardens. These beautiful gardens serve as a memorial to the late Sir Ernest Oppenheimer, a mining magnate and the first elected mayor of the municipality.
The Gariep Kunstefees invites locals and visitors to enjoy a great weekend full of fun and entertainment in the form of food stalls, arts and crafts, exhibitions, children’s theatre and performances by top-notch artists
Last year’s musical performances included the likes of Juanita du plessis, Marion Holm and many others. While the 2017 programme has yet to be announced, looking at previous years, we can be assured that it will be stellar lineup.
The festival is fully family-friendly and there is non-stop entertainment on offer for the kids, including an amusement park with a big wheel, rollercoaster and bumper cars.
Another important element to the Gariep Kunstefees are the Community Projects, which give youths the opportunity to attend workshops in drama, radio presenting, writing songs, and how to be the next big screen star. These workshops aim to uplift the youth of needy communities.
Festival gates will open daily at 9am and close at 10pm.
