Infecting The City 2015 (cancelled for 2016)
Infecting The City is a vibrant and innovative annual public arts festival that takes place in Cape Town. This year it will run from 9-14 March 2015 in various public spaces around the Cape Town CBD.
Infecting The City is committed to making art freely available to everyone, and strives to bring exceptional, socially-engaged performance and visual art out of theatres and galleries and into the communal spaces. In this way, Cape Town’s city centre is transformed into an outdoor venue, where art is free and accessible.
The festival hosts a range of different types of site-specific art, art intervention and performance art. Each year the festival takes on a social issue or theme which the participating artists express with their artworks.
This year’s artist line-up includes:
Andrew Putter and CPUT Graphic Design
Badilisha Poetry X-Change
Bedlam Oz
Cindy Mkaza-Siboto
Limited Edition Drum Corps
New Moon Collective
Handspring Puppet Company
Cape Dance Company
Rhodes University Fine Art Department
Soul City
Velvet Spine
Umzekelo Drama Group
Zip Zap Circus
Infecting the city is presented by the Africa Centre, a non-for-profit organisation that creates a platform for exploring contemporary Pan-African artistic practice as a tool for social change.
