Jbay Winterfest 2016
The 4th edition of the Jbay Winterfest takes place from the 6-17 July 2016 in the coastal town of Jeffreys Bay. The much-anticipated event, which superceded Billabong Pro, sees scores of international and regional athletes, as well as thousands of spectators, flock to the surfing capital for the country’s premier sporting and music event, Jeffrey’s Bay Winter Fest.
The event will comprise mainly of sports with a musical component thrown into the mix. Showcasing 13 different sporting competitions, the event is spearheaded by the 'Jbay Open of Surfing'. This event features internationally acclaimed surfers, including the likes of defending champion Mick Fanning and 11-times world champion, Kelly Slater. Local hero, Jordy Smith, also made an appearance alongside these surfing giants in the Jbay Winterfest 2015.
Amateur sportsmen and professional athletes compete for title prizes in a line up of disciplines. Many of these events are open to the public while bigger tournaments are 'invitation only speciality events'.
Apart from the main event, spectators and participants can also look forward to the 'Mountain Bike Open', the 'Downhill Sokkie Jol', 'Oakley's X-over Championship', three-stage trail runs and a musical festival featuring top-notch musicians.
With the 'Mountain Bike Open', participants can choose between a range of distances from the easier 40 Km ride to the technical 85 Km route. The 'Downhill Sokkie Jol' is a skater haven that includes challenging ramps and obstacles for participants to overcome. If you get dizzy from all the sport's action, relax along the dunes of Dolphin Beach while listening to some live music performances.
