Lowveld Book Festival 2016
The Lowveld Book Festival is a multi-cultural event and a first of its kind for the region. Lovers of South African literature are invited to attend the much-anticipated inaugural festival from 5-7 August 2016 at the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in White River.
The aims of the event are to encourage scholars to read more, and to show support for aspiring writers and illustrators through hosting motivating workshops and discussions with established authors. Furthermore, attendees will be exposed to the works of numerous local and international authors, journalists, poets, and story writers. Says the festival's chairman, Louis van der Merwe, "we hope to draw visitors and well-known authors from across the country to White River and introduce them to the creative talent resident here, as well as to motivate local authors and artists by uncovering their work and exposing them to a wider world of literature."
Festival-goers can look forward to appearances by many critically acclaimed authors, including the multi-award winner Mabonchi Goodwill Motimele, the renowned South African journalist, Jessica Pitchford, and local White River author Jayne Bauling. The world-acclaimed crime-novelist, Tony Parks will feature in the program as one of the international headlining acts.
The program features something for everyone and is jam-packed with poetry readings, creativity-inducing workshops, and presentations. Additionally, attendees can browse books at the outside marquee, or talk to the authors themselves.
This is a not-to-be-missed event for lovers of literature and is a great way to acknowledge the crucial roles that narrators, roles, novelists and authors play in society.
