Magoebaskloof Berry Festival 2017
Magoebaskloof and Haenertsburg will once again become a centre for all things berry at this year's Magoebaskloof Berry Festival, taking place from 11 - 12 February 2017. Visitors can pick their own berries at one of the participating farms, browse local products in the village market or take part in a range of other exciting activities in the area.
The Berry Festival promises activities that will keep the whole family busy. Parents can relax at one of the participating restaurants and take in the sights of Magoebaskloof and children will enjoy taking part in the festivals many competitions and learn how to pick berries.
The main focus of the festival is the picking of berries at the many working farms. Guests will take tours through Blueberry Heights Farm, searching out the extra special, extra delicious blueberries and pick and eat to their hearts content. Visitors can also buy cordials, preserves and pickles, jams and vinegar. Punnets of strawberries will also be available to buy and take home.
Visitors will also be able to tour an organic cheese dairy farm and do a cheese tour where they can explore the farm and taste and watch cheese being made in the traditional way. Cows are milked by hand and curds are stirred in a big copper cauldron over a fire. Children will be enthralled by the chickens, ducks and geese on the farm and there will be plenty of opportunity to stock up on organic cheese and dairy products. Other tours on offer include essential oil tours and brewery tours at the new Zwakala Brewery.
The village market will be available to explore, with lots of quality local products on offer from fresh farm produce, second-hand books, homemade cakes, crafts and much more.
For the more active visitors, the third Berry Festival Trail Run will be held this year. All level of runners will be able to participate, from beginner to expert. The race takes place at Blueberry Heights Farm.
In addition to all of the above, merely the surroundings itself will have you marvelling. Check out the breathtaking views from one of the designated viewpoints in Magoebaskloof or take a walk through the natural forests, a photographer enthusiast's dream.
