South African International Light Tackle Boat Championship 2015
The South African International Light Tackle Boat Championship will be held from the shores of the prime angling destination, the Gariep Dam in the town of the same name in the Northern Cape, from 3 - 8 December 2015. A host of well-equipped skippers will be available to ensure a comfortable and successful angling experience for all fishing enthusiasts.
Gariep Dam was built in 1972 and is 100 KMs long, 374 square KMs wide - making it the largest dam in South Africa. It is by far one of the best freshwater angling dams in South Africa for the light tackle boat angler and has been host to many angling tournaments. It boasts an abundance of Carp and Barble and it is not unusual for boat anglers to weigh in 80-100 Carp per day at 3-5kg per fish. Anglers who are targeting Barble can weigh in bags of 300-400kg per day. Anglers frequently catch monster Carp and Barbel with the latter sometimes weighing in at well over 20kg per fish.
The South African International Light Tackle Boat International Championship is hosted by the South African Light Tackle Boat Angling Association (SALTBAA), which was founded in the early 1960's, with the first recorded competition taking place in Cape Town Harbour from the wharf in 1961.
The competition will open at 4pm on the 3rd of December with an Executive Officers Meeting. Friday the 4th of December is a 'practice day', with a welcome reception taking place in the evening. The real action takes place from 5 - 8 December where boats will commence launching at 6:30am and fishing time will take place for 8 hours thereafter. Each evening at 7pm there will be a happy hour and an announcement of the daily results.
If you're a fishing fanatic, this is a great opportunity to catch a fish of a lifetime and enjoy a holiday in a beautiful location at the same time.
