Standard Bank Joy of Jazz 2017 - 8
If you're a lover of sultry blues and smooth jazz, then you'd best pencil The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival into your calendar. The highly-anticipated event takes place from 28-30 September 2017 at its usual haunt, the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
Every year, some of the world's most renowned jazz performers collaborate for this auspicious celebration of jazz. Last year saw over 10 musicians performing across the spectrum of all jazz genres, from mainstream and afro to R&B and world music.
The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz Festival began humbly in Pretoria almost two decades ago. Since then, it has grown exponentially, attracting over 50 local and international artists and more than 24 000 visitors. It showcases both established and developing artists and provides a platform for up-and-comers.
The event is sponsored by Standard Bank, who have been committed to their support of the arts for the past 30 years.
While the organisers are keeping mum about the 2017 lineup, if recent years are anything to go by, one can expect a bigger and better jazz festival. Over the years, event-goers have seen performances by two Grammy Award winning artists; Gregory Porter and Roy Hargrove.
