The Glenlivet JazzTown at the Vodacom Durban July
THE Glenlivet celebrates this year’s Vodacom Durban July theme with an unprecedented line-up of legendary musicians – THE ‘Stars of Africa’ – set to take centre stage at THE Glenlivet JazzTown marquee on Saturday 6 July, where guests attending this über stylish event will enjoy the ultimate social experience.
Headed up by the legendary Yvonne Chaka Chaka, who makes her first ever appearance at Africa’s greatest race day, the phenomenal music line-up will see the ‘Princess of Africa’ sharing the stage with SA’s finest Afro-pop and soul duo Mafikizolo, and the inimitable Kasi Soul trio The Soil, bringing a dazzling jazz-fusion to THE Glenlivet JazzTown stage.
This is the 3rd year that THE Glenlivet will bring the definitive Jazz lifestyle experience to the mix at Africa’s greatest race day. Guests will enjoy 5-star hospitality within an opulent glass-fronted marquee overlooking the race course, along with a turnout of South Africa’s top tier celebrities and influential personalities, while soaking up the vibe and taking in show-stopping performances by three of SA’s genre-defining musical legends
Says THE Glenlivet Brand Manager Keval Ramraj: ‘We entered into this partnership with a long-term view of creating a truly definitive jazz experience, and it’s rewarding to see how THE Glenlivet JazzTown has quickly become THE place to be at the Vodacom Durban July. This is a partnership that brings together two definitive independent brands that set the standard in their industries, each with a legacy of excellence spanning centuries. This extends to our three genre-defining headline acts who are on par with the world’s best.‘
As one of the most influential musicians in Africa today, Yvonne Chaka Chaka needs little introduction. Discovered at just nineteen years of age, this multi award-winning songstress and songwriter has been at the forefront of South African popular music for 27 years and is regarded as a national icon. The Princess of Africa is also well known for her humanitarian work, and has performed for luminaries like the late President Nelson Mandela and Oprah Winfrey. She will be burning up the stage with hits like Umqombothi, Motherland, Makoti and Every Woman needs a Man.
Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Nciza are the talented duo behind multi award-winning Mafikizolo, who are widely regarded among Africa’s best Afro-pop exports. Their musical influences include Kwaito and Kwela and their hit track ‘Ndihamba Nawe’ is on record as one of the most popular African songs of the 21st century. They’re known for their vibrant stage gear that celebrates the magnificent spectrum of African culture, and it’s anybody’s guess how they will interpret the Stars of Africa theme for their performance. No doubt it will be spectacular!
Completing the stage set are three-part a cappella group The Soil, who hail from Soweto. Their infectious township style vibe - an exciting fusion of township jazz, hip hop, Afro-Soul and Afro-Pop – is sure to have guests up on their feet and grooving to the beat, until DJ’s Sumbody and PH take over the decks.
