Queensburgh Unterkünfte
Queensburgh is a largely residential area just outside Durban in KwaZulu Natal. It lies to the south west of the province’s largest city, on the M7 road to Amanzimtoti. Over the years it has become a very popular place to live, and makes a good base for travellers too, thanks to its pleasant climate and proximity to Durban’s city centre as well as it industrial suburbs in the south of the city.
Queensburgh started out life with the name Malverne. It was the result of 4 outlying townships coming together, namely Escombe, Northdene, Malverne and Moseley. The area was initially settled by Durban locals who wanted to escape the humidity of the city’s subtropical climate.
In 1924 the townships came together and in 1952 the settlement was given its own municipality under the name, Queesnburgh. The name change came about in honour of Queen Elizabeth, who had her coronation in the same year. While the name stuck, its status as an independent municipality did not, and today Queensburgh is part of the eThekwini Municipality, which is in charge of the greater Durban metropolitan area.
Durban’s central areas can be reached within 15 minutes of Queensburgh and with them come their attractions such as uShaka Marine World, the beaches and boardwalk on the famous Golden Mile and the Point development and the harbour. Basically, you will not be left wanting for things to do if you stay in Queensburgh.
Both Durban’s and Pinetown’s industrial areas are equally accessible as the central Durban, and it is lauded as having one of the most convenient locations in relation to the King Shake International Airport.
The cherry on the top is that its slightly inland location means that Queensburgh is not as hot and sticky as central Durban and its coastal suburb are for much of the year.
