The Barberton Mountainlands is one of the most beautiful Wilderness areas with ever-changing mountains, pristine savannah, Bushveld, indigenous riverine and mountain forest, all intersected by gin clear perennial streams. The plant species diversity is second only to the Cape Fynbos with 2 100 different species and still counting. The Barberton Mountainlands is a bird watcher's haven with more than 400 species being recorded here, along with 24 different amphibians and reptiles. Augusta Roberto first discovered gold in Barberton on 20 June 1883. During 1886 Barberton was at the height of its boom. Flashy beauties such as Cockney Liz reigned over a frenetic nightlife. The well-known Sir Percy Fitzpatrick and his dog immortalized in print as "Jock of the Bushveld" whom had many great adventures in this region and a statue of Jock still graces the town. Barberton is seen as the Mecca of adventure sport. Conditions are perfect for paragliding and micro light flying. Endless mountain trails exist for 4×4 vehicles, horse riding, mountain bikes, quad bikes and hiking. Other popular activities include golf, gold panning, jogging, bird watching, scenic drives, hunting, underground mining tours, etc. Today Barberton is a charming, atmospheric little town, with many old buildings still standing and interesting museums displaying the uniqueness of the local Geology and the history during the gold rush days. Gold is still mined here and the town also boasts with the oldest and richest gold and silver deposits in the world.
The Berghuisie is fully equipped for self catering. It is a two bedroom cottage with a double bed in the main bedroom and two single beds in the other bedroom. The kitchen has a gas stove, fridge freezer, electric kettle, microwave, toaster etc. All cutlery, utensils and glasses etc provided. Inside the chalet there is a bath, flush toilet and basin. There is a unique outdoor shower, with hot water. There is a fireplace in the living area. Hot water is heated by electric geyser. All bedding and towels supplied. The tap water is pure, clean and safe, mountain spring water (also purified). There are two beautiful hiking trails on the farm, through jungle type Bush, or forestry paths, as well as 10's of km (literally) of bush tracks to explore. There is a beautiful lookout point to drive to (2.5km). You have your own private braai area (stocked with wood),as well as a private rock splash pool. There is a fireplace in the lounge. Paraffin lamps and candles are on hand in case of load shedding. All you need to bring is food, drinks and clothing. The view from the verandah is breathtakingly beautiful, and one can se for miles across the De Kaap valley. Because there are only two cottages (far enough apart), each with its own entrance road, privacy and tranquility are a given. It is extremely safe up here with a locked boom gate at the bottom of the mountain pass road (you will have your own key). The boom gate is at the start of our 4km mountain pass. The road is well maintained, and is accessible with any normal car. No staff live on the farm. We look forward to welcoming you here on the Mukwana Mountain!

Self Catering The Houthuisie chalet is fully equipped for self catering and all amenities are provided. It is a two bedroom cottage, with double beds in each bedroom. It has a patio/verandah overlooking the De Kaap valley. he Houthuisie chalet is fully equipped, for self-catering, for 4 people, The view is breathtakingly beautiful. The kitchen has a fridge / freezer, electric kettle, microwave, toaster, electric stove, etc. All cutlery and glasses provided. All bedding and towels provided. Detergents and soaps/toilet paper all supplied. There is a shower, flush toilet and basin in the bathroom. Hot water is heated by electric geyser. The tap water is pure clean and safe mountain fountain water (also purified). There are two beautiful hiking trails on the farm, as well as 10's of km (literally) Bush tracks to explore. You have your own private braai area (supplied with wood) as well as a private rock splash pool. All you have to bring is food, drinks and clothing. Because there are only two cottages (far apart), each with its own entrance road, privacy and tranquility are a given. It is extremely safe here with a closed and locked 'boom gate' at the bottom of the mountain pass road (you will have your own key), at the start of our 4km pass. Our road is maintained reasonably well and is accessible to any normal car. No staff live on the farm. We look forward to welcoming you here on the Mukwana Mountain!
