Overview

Have you ever wondered what living in a National Monument would be like? Whether you're on a business trip, on vacation or doing sport, De Volkshuijs is the place where memories are made; where dreams take flight. It is a place that comforts you and holds you tight. Here guests can experience humble living as provided over centuries by the cottages, Sakkie and Saartjie.

De Volkshuijs is the ideal hide away to relax and connect with yourself or your loved ones. These thatched cottages tell the story of simple dwellings where farm labourers worked and lived. Sakkie was built circa 1780 and Saartjie circa 1850. Now is the time to stroll peacefully down memory lane.

De Volkshuijs sleeps 6 adults and 2 children in two private cottages. Guests are welcomed by fresh flowers, beverages and rusks. For warm winter comfort heaters, electric blankets and hot water bottles are provided. Warm decorative touches create a wonderful oasis and the well equipped kitchens allow for easy self- catering. Should you yearn for a barbecue, the enclosed private courtyard offers the perfect setting. Chairs and a grill are provided.

With its charming interior decor, Sakkie cottage welcomes guests to instantly relax and feel at home. Hear the distant ringing of church bells, listen to bird song and see the sun shining brightly upon the ivy green door. Sakkie's spacious bedroom has a double bed and two comfortable chairs. White linen and towels are provided. The bathroom has a bath and shower. The living area has two single beds, a dining table with chairs and a flat screen TV with local channels.

Saartjie is ideal for one couple or parents with 2 youngsters, but is not suitable for 4 adults. The cottage is cosy and romantic. The decor embraces simplicity and honest living. Many memories and good times have been shared around the oak wood table with its handmade chairs (from nearby Zuurbraak). Saartjie has a double bedroom with en suite bathroom (shower only). Crisp white linen and towels are provided. As with Sakkie, the kitchen of Saartjie is well equipped. The living area is furnished with two single beds, a dining table and a flat screen TV with local channels.

De Volkshuijs is within 30km from pristine beaches, nature reserves, the southern most tip of Africa and historical sites.

Guest Comments

Very nice & cozy.
- Sharon Van Den Berg

I love the place. My only concern is the smell of mold.
- Rowena Rogers

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at De Volkshuijs tremendously. We were particularly impressed by the way the old houses were tailored without taking away the authentic farm cottage style.
The cozy feel of the cottage welcomed us as much as the wonderful hostess Veronica did. With a smile she assisted us even though we arrived at night time.
Everything was in place and very neat. We had everything we needed.
We only stayed for two nights, but would've most definitely stayed for a week or more if we could.
