Situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, Western Zambia Kabula Lodge has been specifically designed to provide affordable and truly comfortable holiday accommodation for families who love fishing, birding, the outdoors and who want to enjoy Africa at its pristine best.
The Lodge is located within Barotseland, the Lozi people's mystical wetland region that the famous explorer David Livingstone explored so many years ago, Kabula Lodge provides the ideal holiday destination in a sparsely populated and relatively untouched region of Southern Africa where the magnificent indigenous forests are something to behold.
The appeal of the Lodge has been further enhanced by its incorporation within the recently promulgated Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (TFCA) which is situated in the Okavango and Zambezi River basins where the borders of Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe converge. It will span an area of approximately 287 kmē, almost the size of Italy, and will include 36 national parks, game reserves, community conservancies and game management areas.
This TFCA promises to be Southern Africa's premier tourist destination with the largest contiguous population of the African elephant (approximately 250,000) in the continent.
The accommodation at Kabula consists of self catering chalets, magnificent campsites and a centrally situated communal area.
In keeping with the theme, the rustic and comfortable thatched chalets are built of local materials - wood, grass and reeds. Adding to the natural ambiance, each chalet has a beautiful wooden deck which overlooks the river. There is one 4 bed "fisherman's" chalet, one 3 bed chalet and five 2 bed chalets, all with en-suite
bathroom with shower.
All chalets are provided with linen and towels and are fully serviced. Kitchens which are equipped with gas refrigerators, gas cookers, tables, cutlery, crockery and basic cooking utensils are available for use by the residents of the chalets.
Please note that the chalets are self catering so you must bring all your requirements in terms of food as these are not supplied.
Drinks and bottled water are available from our fully stocked bar but you are welcome to bring your own if you wish. If you decide to extend your stay you can cross back into Namibia and get a re-supply at Katima-Mulilo/992-0-1-1'>Katima Mulilo.
There is no electrical power at Kabula with lighting in the chalets and kitchens being by means of 12 volt lights. Please bring your torches and if you have, gas lights, to use around the camp fire at night. As we say, this is Real Africa!
The fully grassed Kabula campsites, situated beneath huge indigenous trees, are without question the best on the river. These are serviced by clean and well designed ablutions that consist of rondavels, each containing a separate toilet and shower.
In addition to each camp site having its own washing up facility there is a communal washing up area with hot and cold water. Water is heated twice daily by wood fired boilers. A local community member can be hired to undertake your washing and camp cleaning. Please engage this member through the Lodge Manager and agree a rate before taking on this person. (Community Assist Programme).
Some of the campsites have their own thatched lapa which contain tables and benches and are ideal for use as a kitchen/eating area. These spacious and well set out campsites, which have a view of the river, are truly magnificent and we are confident in our claim that one will have to go a long way to find better.
