Overview

Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and Cottages is a tranquil and picturesque destination that offers the perfect blend of history, culture, and luxury. The cottages provide a serene and peaceful retreat for travelers. Our property is named after Karen Blixen, the Danish author and plantation owner who wrote the famous book "Out of Africa", and our cottages and facilities are designed and restored to reflect the elegance and charm of her era. The property site is original farmhouse which was part of the Blixen property. Guests can enjoy the beauty of the garden or relax in one of our bespoke cottages, each themed after Karen Blixen’s Swedo house.

We are centrally and conveniently located in Karen, Nairobi; a short walk from the Karen Blixen Museum, Kazuri Bead Factory and an easy 10-minute drive from the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant & Rhino Orphanage as well as the Giraffe Centre. We are also well-placed for game drive in Nairobi National Park where one can spot the big game with the city skyline in the background. Through the Southern bypass, Wilson Airport, which is used for all safari flights from Nairobi is a 20-minute drive. The bypass combined with the new Express Way on Mombasa Rd makes transfer to/from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport a breeze.

Our 13 cottages are categorized as Standard (6), Honeymoon (1) and 2 Bedroomed Family set up(3). Each cottage has a fire place, spacious bathroom and is wheelchair accessible overlooking the courtyard. We offer 24-hour in room dining and honeymoon amenities.

Hattons Lounge is our all-day dining restaurant which offers an exclusive and upscale dining experience. Our menu features a blend of classic and contemporary dishes, expertly crafted by our talented chefs using the freshest, locally sourced ingredients. Our wine list offers an extensive selection of international labels, carefully curated to complement our menu. Our knowledgeable staff will be happy to assist you in choosing the perfect pairing.

Coffee Garden Restaurant with 3 distinct dining areas offers more gastronomic variety, the first section is the garden which offers contemporary cuisine, the Atrium and Bar offering a place to interact and collaborate and third we have Babette's which offers fine dining with a range of menus and drinks. We have Spiked and specialty coffees to enrich our beverage offering.

The cottages have been designed after the historic Swedo House to give a sense of reliving history in elegant style. All well appointed cottages have hi-beam ceilings with fireplaces, wood and mazeras stone floors. Mini bars, satellite TV & Internet.
