Kingfisher cottage is a renovated 100-year-old stone farm cottage with no shortage of charm and character. The cottage sits in a quiet valley where guests will experience a peaceful and tranquil holiday. Guests have access to a wide range of activities including fishing, swimming, mountain trails - or simply relaxing. Located 25 km (11km on tar and 14km on gravel) from Montagu towards the Koo valley.
The cottage is ideal for a couple seeking a romantic getaway, or a young family looking for some fun and nature. It offers twin beds and 2 small sleeper couches in the lounge area that are ideal for children. The bathroom includes a shower, basin, and toilet. All linen and bedding is provided, and there is no need to carry bulky towels with you either.
The fully equipped kitchen has a two-plate gas stove, bar fridge, and tea- and coffee- making facilities. In line with our sustainable and organic farming practices (solar and hydro generation for electricity), we supply biodegradable guest amenities and dish-washing liquid. Dining space is available for up to 4 people. The lounge area includes additional seating, reading material, and a cozy fireplace.
The cottage features a stunning garden area that includes lounge chairs and a braai pit. Guests will enjoy having a braai with family during the day, or sitting out at night around the fire watching the stars. There is a small concrete splash pool next to the garden to cool off in during the hot summer days.
Animals that frequent the area include Klipspringer, Grey Duiker, Grey Rhebok, Cape Grysbok, Chacma Baboon, Rock Dassie, Porcupine, Black-backed Jackal, Caracal, Bat-eared fox, Grey and Water Mongoose, Cape Clawless Otter, Genet, African Wild Cat. The elusive Cape Leopard is also regularly caught on our camera trap. Perhaps you are lucky enough to spot it.
The owners stay on the farming property adjacent to the cottage and own a male GSP who enjoys the company of humans and dogs. He is also a great guide dog, who will gladly show you the trails on the farm.
Activities / Attractions:
The surrounding mountains offer great hiking (demarcated routes include 'leopard trail' and 'rock pool trail'), mountain biking (bring your own bikes) and typical Karoo and Cape birding.
