Situated on a beautiful 400Ha private game farm, within the Waterberg Biosphere, and home to a wide variety of plains game and superb birdlife. Matamba offers two exclusive upmarket bush campsites.
Tau Camp has five sites Drongo, Hornbill, Oriole, Kingfisher and Francolin. They are about 200m apart so are very private, the campsites and facilities are connected by little paths winding through the woodland. The spacious family bathroom built from natural materials, uses existing rocks as the shower floor, and netting windows offer lovely views onto the surrounding bush. There is also an outside shower and a toilet both built around big trees.
Mara's Camp is a private camp for one group only, in the middle of the farm in a lovely thick woodland, this is a very special place. The camp has two outside family bathrooms each with shower, flush toilet and basin. There is a large central fireplace and a small washing up area. Both camps are unfenced and it is not uncommon the have the game in and around the campsites.
There is no driving on Matamba, but there are five well marked walking trails and over 60Km of sandy tracks. The views over the Marakele mountains are magnificent. Mountain biking is possible, but one does need to be experienced.
There are three waterholes and one natural spring. Kibu Hide is a viewing deck 2m up in a huge Wild syringa tree over looking Zebra plains and a small waterhole. Ndege Hide is a thatch building on stilts by the natural spring.
There are over 30 mammal species and 200 birds recorded on Matamba. The animals are very used to people walking and mountain biking so it is often possible to get very close, which is a wonderfully different experience. With the beautiful big trees, the wild flowers and grasses, Matamba really is the place to unwind, relax and simply enjoy the bush.
The campsite has five well spread out and private sites, each one with a fireplace and firewood supplied, as well as a water tap. All the sites share the ablutions and kitchenette. There is power at most sites with provision for campers to plug an extension lead if required. The family ablution block is built from natural materials, incorporating existing rocks as the shower floor and netting windows offer lovely views of the surrounding bush.
