Overview

Mlilwane is the Kingdom’s most popular ecotourism destination with 24-hour gate access. Enjoy nature on horseback, mountain bikes, hiking trails and open 4x4 and self-drive tours. Hippo, crocodile, Black Eagle, Nyala and warthog sightings, along with birding, are among the wildlife viewing highlights. The Hippo Restaurant and bar features Sibacha dance entertainment, picnics areas and a swimming pool.
Catered and self- catering options include our beehive village, ideal for groups, conference attendees and individuals wanting to experience true Swazi accommodation.

Conference facilities and team building options are available, and the outside functions area, Inkhundla is ideal for private functions such as weddings and graduation parties. It consist of a reed and tin semi- roof, river sand floor, railway sleeper benches, a bar area and has ablutions nearby.

A swimming pool is also available to all visitors. It is enclosed in a large fenced area with ablutions and an open braai/ entertainment area.

Sondzela Backpackers lodge offers quality budget accommodation ideal for the adventurer. Set in the Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary, this lodge offers comfortable accommodation set in scenic Gardens and is perfectly situated with access to the numerous activities and sightseeing opportunities that Big Game Parks presents to you.

The rates do not include the Park entry fee (conservation fee) of R40 p/adult, R20 p/ child U13yrs (Babies U3yrs - free) Check-in is 2pm / Check-out is 10am - Reservations are only confirmed on receipt of the required deposit. - Failure to pay the deposit by the specified date results in the facilities being re-opened for booking. - All rates are listed in Emalangeni, the Swaziland currency. One Emalangeni is equivalent to one South African Rand. - Annual rates are valid from 1st December to the 30th November every year subject to confirmation at the time of booking. - Rates include 14% government tax only. Daily Bed Levy excluded.

Guest Comments

We were highly dismayed to drive up to the reserve after pre-booking our holiday with 'Sleeping-Out', to be charged entry fee at the first gate. This was 'conservation fee'.
When we got to the actual Wildlife Santuary, they again charged us, but this time it was for 'Bed levy'. This is ridiculous!! what were we paying for if not to sleep on beds?!
When i inquired as to whether they had Wifi, they told me i can buy a coupon for R50. i told them i only needed to send ONE whatsapp to say i had arrived, but they gave me no other option other than to buy a coupon.
The room was exciting on the outside as it's really African style, however, inside it was extremely primitive. The beds and room were clean and comfortable and enough space for two people, but no fridge or anything in the room, other than a rail to hang ones clothes, which actually hosted around 4 hangers...WOW!! And a kettle. That was all.
There is no stove or microwave in the room so we had to use the communal kitchen but matches were not supplied. We had to buy them ofcourse!
bedding and towels were provided.
staff alright, but not forthcoming in hospitality.

On the whole, (we stayed 2 nights), i can sum it up by writing:

Very good African adventure
extremely stingy in their supplies
clean
lovely surroundings. no hippos, they have apparently left the reserve.
There were warthogs and buck wandering around and crocodiles in the lovely lake.
