Otter's Bend Lodge, in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, is a unique backpackers', hikers' and travelers' lodge offering a self-catering or bed and breakfast base from which to explore the Western Cape Winelands and Franschhoek. It makes the ideal country getaway for city dwellers and travellers alike.
Otter's Bend Lodge is situated on a 'farm', in the heart of the Franschhoek Valley, surrounded by wine and fruit farms. A foot track leads you off Dassenberg Road through paddock and pear orchard down to the Franschhoek River. You will find Otter's Bend Lodge nestled in amongst poplars, oaks and yellowwoods on the banks of a bend in the river - a nature lover's dream. Its tranquil rustic ambiance makes it hard to believe that it is only a 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive to the centre of Franschhoek village.
The log cabin and communal living area will quickly absorb you into this "gem of a spot" where the whispering of the wind in the trees and the rush of the river, as it makes its way round the bend, tend to command a peaceful silence that is appreciated by all the Otter's visitors.
Although the Otter leaves the welcome to the humans and the domestic animals, he makes his presence felt in his tracks left on the sand and his pathways along the riverbank. In amongst the Orchards, with access to the communal area and pool, is the camping area. Camping is limited to three two-man tents.
A lovely, relaxing place with beautiful scenery & wonderful people.

Otters Bend offers adequate, clean, budget accommodation which makes it unique in Franschhoek. Cleverly situated amongst trees along side a small river, it is quiet and peaceful yet only 15 minutes walk from the center of town. An open plan communal cooking and eating area is great on warm days but can be rather drafty when it is cold and wet.
