Sandfields and Forests

Overview

Located 2,5 hours from Johannesburg and 1,5 hours from Pretoria, Sandfields and Forests is a birder friendly privately owned wildlife reserve of 2 500 hectares bordering the Nylsvley Provincial Nature Reserve in the Nyl floodplain – an internationally recognized wetland and a Ramsar Site.
Abundant birdlife (nearly 400 species) makes the area a mecca for bird lovers. It is also home to a wide range of wildlife including Roan, Sable, Tssessebe, Eland, Red Hartebeest, Southern Reedbuck, Kudu, Impala, Waterbuck, Nyala, Zebra and Giraffe. Predators include Leopard, Brown Hyena, Caracal, Serval, Genet, Small Spotted Cat, Jackal and Honey Badger.
Sandfields and Forests is proudly associated with BirdLife South Africa and welcomes visits from birders.

Bottero's Cottage

Bottero's Camp is a secluded, comfortable and off-the-grid thatched woodlands cottage that forms part of Bottero's Private Nature Reserve. The cottage can accommodate up to 4 guests and comprises 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a large patio and swimming pool. The first bedroom contains a queen-size bed, and the second bedroom contains 2 single beds. Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a bath and a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge-freezer, and cutlery and crockery. The spacious covered patio features a lounge area, a dining table and chairs, and a built-in braai facility.

Burkea Lodge

Burkea Lodge is an off-the-grid bush lodge that can accommodate up to 16 guests and comprises 7 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, a central lapa with a kitchen, dining and living area, a boma with a firepit and braai area, and a swimming pool. 6 of the bedrooms contain a double bed and an en-suite bathroom with a bath or a shower, or both. The seventh bedroom contains a double bed as well as an upstairs loft room with 2 single beds. The lapa kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge and cutlery and crockery. The dining area contains a 14-seater dining table, and there is also a breakfast bar with stools. The lounge area contains seating and a fireplace. There is also an outdoor dining table and chairs, and a boma with seating, a firepit and a built-in braai.

Maurice's House

Maurice’s House offers farmhouse simplicity and can accommodate up to 6 guests. The house comprises 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and living area, and a spacious patio. The first and second bedrooms each contain a queen-size bed, and the third bedroom contains 2 single beds. Each bathroom contains a bath and a shower. The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, stove, and cutlery and crockery. The house opens to a covered patio with outdoor dining furniture and seating.

Vogelfontein Farmhouse

The Vogelfontein Farmhouse is a traditional thatched farmhouse set in a tranquil, lush garden with vistas into the Waterberg and bushveld. The house can accommodate up to 10 guests and comprises 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and an outdoor shower, a kitchen and lounge, and a patio and pool. The first bedroom contains a king-size bed. The second, third and fourth bedrooms each contain a queen-size bed. The fifth bedroom contains 2 single beds. 4 of the bedrooms have an en-suite bathroom with a bath or a shower, or both. The kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge, and cutlery and crockery. The lounge area contains seating and an indoor fireplace. The house opens to a covered patio with outdoor dining furniture. The house has a fire pit to enjoy the evening skies.
