Sgegede Guest House is located next to Mabopane Freeway and is situated a short distance from Pretoria (Tshwane) CBD, Wonderboom Airport, exciting malls and historic buildings. Mountain View, in the central western part of Pretoria, is neighbour to Parktown Estate, Suiderberg and Daspoort Estate and lies in the crook of the R80, or John Vorster Road, as it veers north out of Roseville. It lies like a comforter up against the Magaliesberg Mountains on the other side of Paul Kruger Street from Wonderboom South, a good spot to base yourself if the centre of Pretoria is your destination - only 17 minutes' drive away. Mountain View has a couple of playschools, a primary school and a plant nursery, as well as its own Spar close to the Nederduitsch Hervormde Church.
Not far from Mountain View lies De Onderstepoort Private Nature Reserve, and the Wonderboom Nature Reserve - home to a wild fig tree that is believed to be over 1000 years old. Other vital tourist attractions easy to reach from here include the Kruger House where Paul Kruger lived until 1901 - a few blocks from Church Square in Pretoria Central, the extraordinary modern, glass South African Reserve Bank building, the State theatre, the Transvaal Museum - home to the hominid fossil known as Mrs Ples, and the Union buildings designed by Sir Herbert Baker. Other Attractions in (or near) Mountain View: Church Square is located in the centre of town and is somewhat of a landmark in Pretoria. This is a worthwhile visit not only for the interesting history, but the number of buildings surrounding it each with their own story. See the broze statue of former president of the old Transvaal Republic, Paul Kruger, in the centre of the square. Church Square is aptly named because many, many years ago this used to be the meeting place for farmers and other members of the community to gather and hold Holy Communion. With plenty of good architectural examples from the 19th and 20th Century, historians and budding architects will enjoy a full circle of history. The majority of the buildings were constructed between 1887 and 1910. See the Palace of Justice on the northern side - where Mandela and other ANC revolutionaries were tried and sentenced during the historical Rivonia trial. While on the southern side you can spot buildings such as the Capital Theatre, Netherlands Bank, the Tudor Chambers, the Old Council Building (which is more than 100 years old) and the general post office. If you find yourself in the square on a Wednesday morning between 21h30 and 22h30, enjoy watching the National Ceremonial Guard on parade.
