The Shire Eco Lodge is extraordinary. Inspired by the desire to create a space truly unique, The Shire will captivate you with its innovative design and magnificent setting.

These luxury chalets rest on the edge of the indigenous Xholora forest in the Amatola Mountains, just a stream's hop from the enchanted home of many rare species of plants, birds and butterflies.

The perfect getaway for the nature-loving and adventurous types, and the quietude and proximity to town makes it equally ideal for those here on business.

We offer either self-catering accommodation or B&B just outside Stutterheim.

Each elegant open-plan chalet contains a stylish en-suite bathroom with a comfortable shower. Nestled into the side of curved wooden walls lies a voluptuous queen sized bed or two 3/4 beds depending on your preference. Through the striking curved-glass corner window one can experience the forest and feel at unity with nature.

The fully equipped kitchen contains a stove and microwave. Each chalet has its own braai /barbecue facilities where one can spend time enjoying the outdoors.

There are a number of restaurants close by where one can dine in the evenings if too relaxed to cook.

There is a separate ablution facility which contains a bath, if required.

The perfect getaway for the nature-loving and adventurous types, and the quietude and proximity to town makes it equally ideal for those here on business.

Absolutely loved it! Will definitely visit again. Everything was neat and tidy. The bed was so comfortable and the electric blanket made it even better. The chalet (Sullivan) we occupied was right in front of the forest. The little stream bordering the forest added to the experience. It was food for my soul - listening to the running water and birds singing. The architecture of the chalet is SUPERB and so much detail. All I can say is - WOW! Well done!

We really wanted to stay longer but our time had run out, we had to get back home.
You really feel one with nature, especially with the rounded corner windows and the bush shower! The boys felt quite at home and had loads of space to run. We still want to explore the mountain bike tracks, or just cycle around all the interesting farms and places, as well as walk to the dam where we can swim.
We were told about the abundant naturally occurring wild life, so walks in the bush are also on our next-time to-do list!
And this time round the car will have space for some of the plants from the nursery to come back home with us.
