Tshikwalo Game Lodge is situated inside the Dinokeng Game Reserve, which is the first free-roaming Big-5 residential game reserve in Gauteng, in a malaria-free area. Tshikwalo is only a 30 minute drive north of Pretoria and a 60 minute drive from O.R. Tambo International Airport and Johannesburg. Tshikwalo Guesthouse: Exclusive 10-room villa for events or team getaways, with catering options and conference facilities. Tshikwalo offers self-catering , DBB or BB options. Dinokeng translates into 'place of two rivers' - in this case, the Elands and Pienaars - an area close to the town of Cullinan, established as a tourist destination and part of a government initiative. Free-roaming lion and elephant, the first in over a hundred years in the Tshwane Metro, is an impressive draw card, as are white rhino, hyena, giraffe, leopard and buffalo. The relatively young Dinokeng reserve, opened only in late 2011, is 18,500 hectares of former farming land restored for use as it originally must have been – as home to wild animals. Activities include day and night game drives, sunset boat cruises, guided bush walks, bush lunch picnics, bass fishing and game viewing, Private Bush Dinners, Anniversary or anything you like, just ask Tshikwalo Lodge. Those who have visited the Dinokeng reserve rave about the experience, which is possibly why you should book a game drive ahead of arrival, as they fill up quickly, and no self-driving is permitted in the reserve. The Dinokeng Game Reserve is unique in the sense that it involves private landowners who have agreed to incorporate their land into the game reserve, supported by the government, which has funded any infrastructure necessary in its creation. The former farmers benefit by developing tourism facilities on their respective holdings, which is why you can stay at anything from a farm stay to a lodge.
