Yzerfontein is known for its natural scenic beauty. Vast stretches of unspoilt beaches, including the 16 Mile Beach stretching from the main beach towards the West Coast National Park that borders the town, create a tranquil environment perfect for unwinding away from the city. About 10 km offshore of Yzerfontein, Dassen Island offers a quiet retreat with an abundance of birds and photographic scenery. Nature lovers will be in their element with activities like mountain biking, whale and dolphin spotting in season, bird watching, scenic drives, and day tours to the surrounding areas. During spring, fields of beautiful wild flowers add colour to the area and provide the perfect backdrop for a family or couple photo. For the energetic, a variety of hiking trails are on offer, such as the Darling Stagger, Elandsfontein Private Reserve, Grotto Bay Coastal Nature Reserve, and Tienie Versveld Reserve. Those who venture into the West Coast National Park can expect to see wildlife such as eland, bontebok, Springbok, steenbok, kudu, duiker, Cape mountain zebra, caracal, African wild cat, and the Bat-eared fox.
