Nestled at the foot of the breathtaking Mkonjwa Mountain Range in the quaint mining town of Barberton, you’ll find Fountain Baths Guesthouse. Built in 1884 as a bathhouse for gold diggers in the area, it boasts the oldest swimming pool in the old Transvaal. Today, Fountain Baths still revives the senses as a welcome retreat for travellers exploring this history-rich part of South Africa.
Fountain Baths is perfectly situated within walking distance from town. Its garden extends to the very foot of the mountain. Majestic trees and lush vegetation make this a birder’s paradise. Vervet and samango monkeys, baboons and giant bush babies are regular visitors to this garden.
Part of the oldest rock formation in the world can be found on Fountain Baths’ premises. And for the enquiring and energetic, there are mine tours, gold panning, a heritage walk, quad bike drives into the mountains, horse riding, guided tours for birders, hiking, 4x4 trips and good restaurants.
Accommodation is B&B or self-catering with bathrooms en suite. TV rooms have been decorated for style and comfort and they all have their own entrances into the garden.
