Eugene Marais Hospital is located in Pretoria, a significant business hub in Gauteng, and also South Africa’s administrative (executive) capital city. The hospital, which has 365 beds in total and 14 surgical theatres, is located in the small, leafy suburb of Les Marais. It lies north of Pretoria’s central business district and north west of the Union Buildings. The suburb is close to the National Botanical Gardens and the National Zoological Gardens.
The hospital offers a range of accommodation from private wards to semi-private and 4 bed wards. What is even more comprehensive is the range of medical and surgical disciplines practised in the hospital. In total there are over 20 disciplines which include common areas such as obstetrics & gynaecology and general practise & surgery to highly specialised disciplines like cardiac & thoracic surgery and neurology. These services are offered by Eugene Marais resident doctors and nurses as well as a network of support medical personnel.
The hospital, in addition to straightforward medical care offers a number of support services too such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietetics and biokinetics. There are also services providing emotional support and information to patients and their families. These include birth preparation classes, counselling, health awareness programmes, rehabilitation programmes and support groups for cancer sufferers and diabetics among others.
Eugene Marais Hospital has a fully operational pharmacy and there is also a coffee shop, which operates from 07h30 to 20h00.
