Accommodation near Lappiesbaai
Lappiesbaai is a popular beach in Stilbaai, a small holiday town in the Western Cape, about 3.5 hours from Cape Town. It is an ideal place to pass a summer’s day, especially given its Blue Flag status.
The name Lappiesbaai literally translates into ‘Bay of Rags’, a name earned from the locals’ habit of drying their clothes on the shrubs near the beach. This is no longer the case but the name has stuck.
Lappiesbaai is a special place where the Gaukau River meets the Indian Ocean. During the winter months (June-September), the whale watching is top class from the beach. Furthermore, the surrounding vegetation is a haven for birds and bird-watchers alike.
Prolific birdlife and excellent whale-watching aside, Stilbaai (including Lappiesbaai) is a favourite beach holiday destination due to its mild climate. In summer it is rarely scorching hot while visitors don’t freeze in the winter. The ocean is also warm making swimming a pleasant experience for most of the year.
Some activities that people partake in given the great weather include the usual beach things – sun tanning, volleyball, and swimming- as well as slightly more specialised ones such as fishing. Lappiesbaai offers good fishing both from the rocks at the end of the beach and from the beach itself.
Perhaps its most important claim to fame is Lappiesbaai beach’s Blue Flag status. The Blue Flag is awarded to beaches based on a list of criteria which cover environmental education and information, water quality, environmental management and safety and services. To put it simply, Lappiesbaai’s Blue Flag status means that the beach water is clean, the environment in and around the beach is protected and respected, the services such as toilets and drinking water are good and that patrons are physically safe thanks to a life guard(s) on duty.

I am overwhelmed and excited, I never win competitions and this would be the first time that I win one. I am really grateful as it could not have come at a better time. I would like to thank God firstly and then I would like to thank Sleeping out, and last but not least I want to thank Botterkloof Resort, I will definitely be staying there again on one of my next holidays as I enjoyed it thoroughly and the service I received was of an impeccable standard. I will recommend anyone to go on holiday. I won!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe it I am still shocked.

Love Stilbaai - something for everyone. The town is very, very clean and properties are all well maintained and tidy. Beaches and harbour area also well maintained with no litter - what a pleasure! Fishermen are spoiled for choice - river, rock and beach angling available and nearby Jongensfontein has a lovely tidal pool next to the Caravan/camping site. Stilbaai is our favourite place to visit on the coast.

Stilbaai was the perfect place to revitalize, small quiet and very reserved and exactly what I wanted and was the perfect getaway, shops were close by which made it convenient. One of the best holiday getaway places and I will certainly recommend anyone to go.
