Accommodation near Rooiberg Golf Course

Rooiberg is a fascinating little town located in the heart of Limpopo province, South Africa. It started out life as a residence for employees of the nearby tin mine, and after the mine’s closure was all but deserted. Today however it is a thriving little development complete with its own golf course, known simply as the Rooiberg Golf Club.

The golf course is reflective of the town in that its bushveld setting is peaceful and safe and the locals are friendly. The town, after its brief period as a ghost town in the early 1990’s, was bought up by a consortium and developed initially as a haven for retirees. The old folk liked it for its low crime rate and peaceful atmosphere in the South African bushveld. Obviously it’s not only retired people who like this lifestyle though, and soon the town grew. Today it has 4 pubs, 2 general dealers, a school and a few other amenities.

Golf club is a favourite hangout for the local population and one can easily while away a day there hardly noticing the time passing. The course has 18 holes and is the African equivalent of a parklands course – slightly yellowing, but well kempt ‘greens’ cover a largely flat surface and are dotted with bushveld trees. Game such as antelope can often be seen grazing on the grass and there is an abundance of birdlife in the trees too.

The club’s other facilities include braai spots, a bar and a clubhouse. The dress code on the course is the standard golf attire while casual clothes are welcomed in the bar and clubhouse. The course is closed on Mondays and visitors are welcome any other day of the week. The town and golf course lie between Thabazimbi and Bela Bela.
