The Wanderers Golf Club offers enthusiasts a scenic 18-hole course. Having first been established in 1939, it has gained much popularity over the years. The club is favoured for its heavily-treed setting and undulating grounds, making for a challenging, yet enjoyable few rounds of golf. The grounds are a test of physical acuity and accuracy, favouring golfers who can make a shot through narrow avenues of trees.
In 1999, the golf course received a major revamping in adherence to the demands of the public. The greens were resurfaced, raised and enlarged, while existing bunkers were reshaped entirely. Their biggest claim to fame and the most fundamental undertaking was the club’s installation of the ‘SubAir System’ in 2004. This addition changes the face of golf playing during the rainy season, as heavy rainfalls are instantaneously flushed away from the greens. After a round of golf, players have a drink or two at the prestigious clubhouse. Having also undergone changes in the past decade, it is considered one of the best clubhouses in the country.
While hosting practice sessions for amateur golfers, The Wanderers Golf Club has been the chosen venue for professional tournaments too, including the South African PGA Championship that occurred between the years 1972 to 1995.
